This is absolutely a cachaca-montenegro drink with a hint of banana, but it is also absolutely delicious.

2 1/2 years later, after making a countless number of these: with a decent creme de banane it's fantastic and one of my favourite drinks, but with tempus fugit creme de banane - the one that's liquid banana bread - it's on another level.

I love The Guide, I love the Earl Grey MarTEAni, but I'm fairly sure he never specifies earl grey. He only ever calls for a cup of tea.

Avery, I think you’ll find that Appleton Estate 8 Reserve is a Single Estate Jamaica Rum.
Personally I don’t add the Crème de menthe as I don’t have any, but use the rest of the ingredients. So far I’ve not had any complaints.

"Caribbean aged rum" is as vague of a term as "whiskey".

It's very good - how can chartreuse drinks be bad? but there isn't much going on outside of that. I upped it to 15ml of each chartreuse and it's a vast improvement but the chartreuse is doing basically all of the heavy lifting of the 4.5/5.

It works. It's not clashing. I gave it 4 because I like cola and I like pisco. It really doesn't feel like the best use of pisco by far, though.

Whilst the taste is overwhelmingly that of campari, I think the quality of the drink hinges on the limoncello. I used the dregs of a not-so-good one and it was fairly flat outside of the campari flavours. I imagine with a good limoncello this would be a good drink rather than a pretty okay one.

I went a little heavy handed on the Fernet and I only had some tawny port to hand...which is close enough to red wine! A very delicious drink. Quite dry, very fruity.

A serviceable if unexciting red fruit long drink. Not too sweet, not too strong, not too weak. Better with half lightly aged rum and half of something (anything) to provide excitement - an agricole, a jamaican, an overproof...

A very, very strange drink. At the start: yup, this is a glass of sparkling wine with a hint of apple and a hint of a hint of peach...and by the end, it really was more than that. Just a bit. I don't get it.

This strikes me as a drink which requires pinpoint balance - I went a little over, maybe 12ml of maraschino, and it was almost all I could taste

Avery Garnett

Coming back to it a year later, being very precise with my measurements...it's just really not good. At least now it's not just a maraschino bomb, but it's all around mediocre. Reminds me a lot of a martini, weirdly.

An absolutely fantastic aged agricole highball. The pinnacle of what a rum and coke should taste like, best achieved it turns out with an unorthodox rum (in my case, JM Terroir Volcanique) and no cola (but averna, allspice, and sparkling wine absolutely gets close).
